Luigi Boccia, making his NYC recital debut, accompanied by Chelsea Opera's Music Director/Conductor, Carmine Aufiero, will present a program of great Italian art songs by Paolo Tosti. The program will also include songs by composers Giulio Caccini, Giovanni Paisiello, Giuseppe Giordani, Vincenzo Bellini, and Giacomo Puccini, and a selection of Neapolitan favorites. Following his opera debut with Chelsea Opera in the role of Don Ottavio (Mozart’s Don Giovanni), Mr. Boccia was invited to coach “Ferrando” in Mozart’s Cosî fan tutte with Maestro Ottavio Dantone at Milano’s Teatro alla Scala. Mr. Boccia and Maestro Aufiero are pleased to present this recital as a benefit for Chelsea Opera’s Production Fund in anticipation of its May 15-18 production of the 50th anniversary of the New York City premiere of Douglas Moore’s The Ballad of Baby Doe.

Also from the Chelsea Opera:
We would be delighted to have the CUNY BA usher core for our four performances of The Ballad of Baby Doe which are on Thur, Fri and Sat at 7.30pm and Sun at 3pm. May 15-18, at St. Peter's Church in Chelsea (346 West 20th Street). We need at least six people per night but could easily work with as many as eight. They would need to arrive no later than one hour before curtain. In return, they will get to see the show for FREE!!!! If they'd like a spouse/partner to come along (they have to usher, too), that's fine. If a sufficient number of CUNY BA students volunteer (say 15 or more), we would be pleased to put a nice acknowledgement in the program.

Students who are interested in volunteering should email me at the above address. It's not too soon to send this out. We're usually in a crunch to get enough people and it would be heavenly to have the ushers lined up this far in advance.

Thanks so much for your help and support.
